I got the chance to try out the Intensive Repair Balm as well as the Resurfacing Facial Pads. The former is an intensive skin repair balm developed by Dr.Lens, with a high concentrated formula of high performance ingredients. Initially it comes of as very smoothing, and then helps repair damaged or irritated skin. Should be applied evenly on the face or neck, morning and night, and although it comes with a hefty price tag, the results in the end easily justify the expense.
The Facial Pads are formulated with PHA (polyhydroxy acids) plus alpha and beta hydroxyl acids. The resurfacing treatment exfoliates the skin also providing anti-oxidant protection. The peel helps refine skin texture, evens out skin tone, and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and enlarged pores. They can be used daily morning and evening, and should be followed up with a moisturizer.
The man behind the brand is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in London, a reconstructive plastic surgeon and an expert in the world of skin cancer and skin ageing. He went to medical school at the University of Verona in Italy, and got his PhD degree in skin cancer at Oxford University, and a Master of Science degree from Harvard. He is also in private practice in the prestigious Wimpole Street in London.
His theory behind Zelens is to use high performance ingredients to combat the complex molecular mechanisms inside the skin along with the use of plant extracts chosen from Japanese herbal Kampo medicine. This accounts for the relatively high price tag of the brand which is $95 for the facial pads and $225 for the intensive balm.
Zelens uses up to 20 natural plant ingredients, including 14 that are powerful anti- Oxidants. One of those from Japan is Shiso, a mint leaf known particularly for its healing qualities. Another item in their limited range that by all accounts is the best of its kind is the Advanced Luminescence Serum that will be featured in a future review.
